NEED TO KNOW

  • Beef season 2 premiered on April 16 on Netflix
  • Series creator Lee Sung Jin previously said he had three seasons mapped out
  • Beef season 1 won several Emmys, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series

Beef is back with new fights and feuding couples.

Season 1 of the hit series premiered on Netflix in April 2023, and went on to win multiple Emmys, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, and acting wins for Ali Wong and Steven Yeun.

Over three years after its debut, Beef has returned with season 2, featuring a new cast, including Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny and Youn Yuh-jung.

Beef creator Lee Sung Jin originally pitched the series as an anthology, an idea he revealed to Variety in May 2024.

"I always thought a show called Beef — where every season there are new characters there’s a new 'beef' — would be fun," he explained.

Lee continued, "When you’re filming, there’s no season 2 guaranteed. That’s why the story was so close-ended, because if there is no season 2, this works as a limited series."

So, with new episodes now on Netflix, here's what to know about Beef season 3.

Beef season 2 premiered on April 16, but there hasn't been official confirmation of a third installment.

If the series does return for another set of episodes, it will most likely star a new cast since both of the first two seasons consisted of different ensembles and characters.

Whether Beef season 3 happens or not, Lee is staying busy. He is working on a script for the upcoming X-Men reboot, according to Variety.

"I’m a big, big fan of the comics and I’m just very honored to have a small part in it," he told the outlet in April 2026.

While a third season of Beef hasn't been announced, Lee has already thought about future seasons.

"I wanted it to have a conclusive feel just in case, but there are a lot of ideas on my end to keep this story going," he told Rolling Stone in April 2023, when asked about the ending of season 1.

"I have one really big general idea that I can’t really say yet, but I have three seasons mapped out in my head currently," Lee added.

At the season 2 premiere of Beef in April 2026, the creator said in an interview that he was "perfectly happy with this being the last season."

"But if the universe shoves something else in my face that I have to respond to, I'm always trying to remain open," he noted.
