Netflix just released Enola Holmes 3, and fans are already itching for another.

The third installment in the streamer's hit Sherlock Holmes film franchise — which has starred Millie Bobby Brown as its titular character since 2020 — premiered on July 1, after a nearly four-year hiatus from the sequel. In it, Sherlock's (Henry Cavill) younger sister, Enola (Brown), takes on "a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before," per the official synopsis.

Part of that tension stems from the fact that the case unfolds alongside her wedding to Lord Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge), whose relationship with Enola has deepened by the third film, according to Brown.

"The stakes feel bigger, not just in terms of the mystery, but emotionally too," the actress told PEOPLE ahead of Enola Holmes 3's release. "And of course, fans of Enola and Tewkesbury … there's definitely more to explore there. Their relationship feels more mature, a bit deeper, and real."

While Netflix has yet to announce whether Enola Holmes will return for a fourth installment, Brown isn’t the only one to hint that there’s more story left to tell.

Plot details for a potential fourth installment have yet to be revealed.

However, in a June 2026 interview with The Sunday Times, writer Jack Thorne shared that each movie so far has been used to explore certain "very problematic" principles that Victorian society was built on.

“So the first film was about land reform and voting rights," he said ahead of Enola Holmes 3's release. "The second about the birth of the union movement. And this film looks at colonialism … We want people to sit on the sofa afterwards and have a chat.”

Fans can also take comfort in the fact that there is still plenty of source material to pull from. Author Nancy Springer published the tenth and final book in her mystery novel series in February 2026.

In a November 2022 interview, Springer revealed that Brown's father had reached out to her agent about making an adaptation.

"Apparently, Millie had read the Enola Holmes books and wanted to make a movie based on them," the author said. "I have no idea of how the arrangements were managed after that, but when I found out that I had a contract, and about [Millie] part in it, I just glowed, because most of my writing had been for teens, and now a teen had given back to me in a big way. This still amazes me."

What has Millie Bobby Brown said about Enola Holmes 4?

Though the franchise's leading lady hasn't addressed a fourth film specifically, she has spoken about her love for playing the witty detective.

"I would love to be a part of another one," she told ScreenRant in November 2022 following Enola Holmes 2's debut. "I would love to see her do more cases, be put under pressure, be put in crazy situations, make her feel vulnerable again. I absolutely love seeing her back at work."

Brown's on-screen brother, Cavill, expressed a similar sentiment in November 2022, telling Collider that "there are so many options" for continuing Enola's story.

"The important thing for me is making sure that I can give everything I need to give to every one of the characters that I play," the actor said. "So I think it's all about making sure that I have the time to serve the characters as I need to."
