Woman, 22, Dead and at Least 5 Others Injured After Shooting at Rave, Police Still Searching for Suspect

One person is dead and at least five others are injured following a shooting in Switzerland. 

At around 2:30 a.m. local time on Sunday, Aug. 30, the Aargau Cantonal Police (ACP) responded to reports of a shooting at a techno rave at a horse racing track in Aarau’s Schachen district, Swiss news outlets Blick, Aargauer Zeitung and Le Temps reported.

A 22-year-old woman died at the scene, the ACP announced on X. Four men and one woman aged between 24 and 27 were hospitalized with “minor to severe” injuries. The victims, who have not been publicly identified, are all Swiss residents.

The ACP confirmed a search has been launched to find the shooter.

“The manhunt for the unknown perpetrator is underway. Possible motives as well as the exact circumstances of the crime are still unclear,” the ACP said on X.

The Aargau Racing Club said in a statement following the shooting, “The rave party in Aarau was overshadowed by a serious incident. The relevant emergency services were immediately alerted and arrived on site with the necessary resources to manage the situation and initiate the required measures.”

“Our deepest sympathies go out to all those affected and their families who find themselves in this difficult and distressing situation,” the statement continued. “…The exact circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated with great care … out of respect for those affected and their families, we ask that you refrain from speculation and await the ongoing investigations.”

Swiss DJ Tekibo, who attended the event, said in a post on his Instagram Stories that his friend died in the shooting.

“Guys, for everyone asking I’m ok! What happened at Aaruer rave is absolutely heartbreaking and something that should never happen at our scene,” he wrote. “Techno and raves are supposed to be a place with freedom and safety, never a place where something like this happens.”

“I’m still trying to process what happened because I lost an important friend and I don’t have the right words for it… I’ll be taking some time away from everything for a while to process a situation,” he concluded.

The ACP has opened a major investigation and has urged the public to stay away from the area.
