A Louisiana jury was reportedly brought to tears by graphic testimony and autopsy photos before convicting a woman in the murder of her boyfriend’s 4-year-old daughter, who prosecutors said died after suffering repeated abuse inside a “dungeon-like” bedroom.
Terrie Ann Gray, 49, was found guilty after just five minutes of deliberation on charges of first-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile in the death of Athena Rose Denise Miller, according to a press release issued by the Vernon Parish District Attorney’s Office. Gray was also convicted in connection with abuse allegations involving the child’s 2-year-old brother.
Authorities said Athena and her younger brother had moved into the Leesville home Gray shared with the children’s father, Logan Miller, only months before Athena was found unresponsive. The child was transported to a local hospital before being airlifted to a trauma facility in Shreveport, where she died the following day, per the release. A forensic medical examiner determined Athena died from blunt force trauma to the head.
During the emotional trial, jurors were shown photographs documenting Athena’s injuries, including burns, cuts, bruises and broken bones, KPLC and American Press reported. The outlets said some jurors and family members cried as testimony detailed the child’s injuries.
Gray’s teenage daughter Scarlett testified that she witnessed abuse against Athena and the child’s younger brother while they lived in the home, the outlets reported.

Scarlett told jurors she once saw Gray standing behind Athena with the child’s arms “pulled straight backwards” while bruises covered her body, according to American Press.
“Over time, I saw the scratches on her body, and I saw the marks under her neck getting worse,” Scarlett testified, the outlet reported.
She also testified that she later found Athena unconscious and limp after Gray exited the child’s bedroom shortly before leaving the house, according to courtroom coverage from KPLC and American Press.
Investigators described the children’s room as “dungeon-like,” KPLC reported.
Forensic pathologist Dr. Barbara Herfel testified Athena suffered “multiple events of trauma,” including a bilateral brain bleed, fractures, burns and an untreated broken clavicle, according to testimony cited by KPLC and American Press.
Gray is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 25. Under Louisiana law, a first-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory life sentence without parole or probation, prosecutors said.
Logan Miller, 26, is also charged in connection with Athena’s death. His trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 19, according to the district attorney’s office.
