After over four years, a Wyoming woman finally reunited with her lost dog when he miraculously turned up across the country.

“Microchipping is what got him home,” Gail Gordon told Florida radio station WUFT-FM.

Gordon's had given up hope of ever finding her beloved dog Whiskey when she received a call from a local veterinarian that Whiskey had been found — in Florida.

As it turned out, Whiskey had been recovered by Alachua County Animal Resources in Gainesville, which was able to trace him back to Gordon via his microchip.

When Gordon learned of Whiskey's location, she immediately hopped in the car to begin her cross-country journey.

When it finally came time to reunite, she told the radio station, "I was shaking."

Alachua County Animal Resources Supervisor Brittany D’Azzo went on to call the reunion heartwarming.

"It reminded us that all of this is worth it," D'Azzo told the radio station. "We see so many bad things and this was just icing [on] the cake of what we do everyday."

Alachua County Animal Resources did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for additional comment.

Earlier this year, a similar happy reunion took place when a Wisconsin man made a 16-hour drive from Wisconsin to Philadelphia in order to reunite with his dog Cipo.

The emotional reunion came after his dog, who had been lost for years was found as a stray near a local airport and identified through her microchip.

Once Ramirez received the call, he made the long drive, even though a major winter storm was sweeping across the East Coast. “That was incredible,” he said. “She is my best friend.”
