Several stars have opened up about their fertility and the choice to freeze their eggs.

Freezing eggs, which is formally called oocyte cryopreservation, is a medical procedure in which eggs are extracted from the body and frozen for potential future use.

From there, patients can choose what to do with their eggs — whether it’s creating an embryo, keeping frozen or discarding them.

“Women in general are at the point in society where we are waiting longer and longer to have children because we want more for ourselves,” Chrissy Teigen, who froze her eggs and has been open about her fertility, told Bustle in 2021. “And I think that is a beautiful, incredible thing. I don’t think we should say, ‘No, nature wants us to have children by this age.’ We have to open our minds to different ways of having children, different ways of conceiving, and making sure that we’re taking care of ourselves first.”

From the Kardashian sisters to Lainey Wilson, here are several celebrities who have talked about freezing their eggs.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas

Priyanka Chopra Jonas “felt such freedom” when she froze her eggs in her “early 30s,” as she shared in a March 2023 episode of the Armchair Expert podcast.

“I could continue on an ambitious warpath that I wanted to achieve. I wanted to get to a certain place in my career,” she explained. “I also hadn’t met the person I wanted to have children with or I didn’t see that. That’s anxiety-inducing. [I was] 35, and my mom’s an OB-GYN who’s like, ‘36 — Just do it.’ ”

The actress added that she tells “everyone to [freeze their eggs].”

“I always knew I wanted kids, which was one of the big reasons I didn’t want to date Nick [Jonas] at that time ‘cause I was like, ‘I don’t know if he wants kids at 25,’ ” she said of her now-husband. “But I’ve always wanted kids. I love kids.”

The couple, who married in 2018, went on to welcome their daughter, Malti Marie, via surrogacy in January 2022.

Kristen Stewart

Both Kristen Stewart and her wife, Dylan Meyer, froze their eggs to keep their options open regarding having children together.

“We’ve done really annoying things like freeze our eggs and stuff,” Stewart said during a March 2024 episode of Amanda Hirsch’s podcast Not Skinny But Not Fat. “So if we want to, we can.”

Emma Roberts

Although Emma Roberts was initially “terrified” of learning more about her fertility, she made the decision to freeze her eggs after being diagnosed with endometriosis in her late 20s.

“It really started to come to the forefront of my mind when, a few years ago, I learned that I’ve had undiagnosed endometriosis since I was a teenager,” she told Cosmopolitan in 2020.

The American Horror Story actress was told that she “should probably freeze your eggs or look into other options,” and although she was hesitant, she ended up listening to the advice.

“I said, ‘I’m working right now. I don’t have time to freeze my eggs.’ To be honest, I was also terrified,” she recalled. “ Just the thought of going through that and finding out, perhaps, that I wouldn’t be able to have kids … I did freeze my eggs eventually, which was a difficult process.”

Roberts added that speaking to other women about fertility made her feel that she “was not alone in this.”

The actress, who married Cody John in July 2026, is a mother to one child, son Rhodes, whom she shares with ex Garrett Hedlund.

Michaela Coel

Michaela Coel told her Mr. & Mrs. Smith costar Donald Glover that she froze her eggs “just in case.”

“I’m freezing my eggs, just in case,” she said in a GQ interview in September 2020. “I’ve never been too thinky about bearing my own children through my vagina. I have thought about adopting. That I’ve thought of more than vaginal children. But in case I changed my mind, because I don’t know, they say it happens.”

She continued, “Like, you reach this point where suddenly you really want babies and all you can think about is you want a baby and the clock’s ticking. I don’t ever have that. I’ve never felt it. I’ve never even said, ‘I want to have a baby’ ever in my life. So I’m freezing them in case that hits me later.”

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen has been open about her fertility struggles over the years and advocated for other women in similar situations. She froze her eggs when she was 28 years old and later used her and husband John Legend’s embryos to welcome four children together.

The couple, who married in 2013, had three children — daughters Luna and Esti and son Miles — conceived via IVF and carried by Teigen, while her younger son, Wren, was carried by a surrogate. Teigen and Legend conceived son Jack naturally, but they tragically lost him at 20 weeks of pregnancy in 2020.

“You have such googly eyes going into your 20s — you don’t expect that you’re going to be one of those people who experiences anything negative,” Teigen reflected to Bustle in 2021. “I would have preferred to have had 21-year-old eggs over 28-year-old eggs, but that’s the way it worked out for us. But of course, it feels weird to tell a 20-year old, ‘You have to freeze your eggs!’ when [getting pregnant] can happen for so many people.”

She told PEOPLE in April 2021 that it’s “really important” to her to “make sure that everybody has access to those ways and making sure that people are able to make their dreams come true.”

“It would just be a beautiful thing,” she shared. “It’s so incredibly expensive to freeze your eggs and to harvest them. IVF isn’t an option for a lot of people and it needs to be. It shouldn’t be such an expensive endeavor for a woman trying to conceive a child.”

Kim, Kourtney and Khloé Kardashian

All three Kardashian sisters — Kim, Kourtney and Khloé — have explained why they froze their eggs and expressed their gratitude for doing so.

Kim, who has been open about her fertility complications, froze her eggs after being diagnosed with preeclampsia when welcoming her first daughter, North West, with then-partner, Kanye West. After conceiving her first child naturally, she went on to do IVF for son Saint.

“After my daughter was born, I still continued to do the process of freezing my eggs,” she shared in a 2019 video. “I was able to get pregnant through that with my son Saint, and then I had two embryos left. I had the same condition, same awful delivery that I had with my first daughter.”

The SKIMS founder, who underwent five surgeries as a result of the two labors, later welcomed daughter Chicago and son Psalm through a surrogate carrying her embryos.

“I’m so thankful for my beautiful kids, no matter how they came to me — they came to me,” Kim said. “I’m so thankful for surrogates. I’m really thankful for my family. I grew up with so many siblings. I just loved being in a big environment. I would have gone through the same pain and back for the result of having my babies. It was all worth it.”

Meanwhile, Kourtney was a mom to three children — sons Mason and Reign and daughter Penelope with ex Scott Disick — when she decided she wanted to have a child with her husband, Travis Barker.

Kourtney previously explained that she froze her eggs before she turned 40, but many of them didn’t make it past the thawing process, which resulted in her and Barker undergoing several rounds of egg retrieval and IVF.

“I had seven frozen eggs from years ago, before Travis,” she explained in a 2023 episode of The Kardashians. “When I was 38 or 39, everyone was like pushing me to do that. Most of mine didn’t survive the thaw because eggs are one cell, and none of them made it into an embryo. The freezing of eggs isn’t guaranteed. It’s a misunderstanding, people do it thinking it’s a safety net, and it’s not.”

The couple went on to try to conceive via IVF several times before they naturally conceived son Rocky, who was born in November 2023.

Khloé joined her sisters in the egg freezing journey in 2019 after welcoming daughter True with her then-partner Tristan Thompson the previous year.

“I realized there’s nothing wrong with having this insurance policy,” she said on a 2020 episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. “The doctor is really happy with the amount of follicles I have at the moment so this is going to be the perfect month to start hormone injections.”

However, Khloé wanted to ensure that her eggs were viable, so she mixed them with Thompson’s sperm to create embryos. She and Thompson later welcomed son Tatum via IVF with a surrogate in 2022. In May 2026, she revealed that Thompson legally signed over a few of the embryos to her if she wanted to have more kids in the future.

Paris Hilton

Before Paris Hilton married husband Carter Reum in November 2021, she had already frozen her eggs and they had created embryos. The Simple Life star explained to PEOPLE in December 2022 that they took advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic to focus on fertility.

“We started going and doing it like a few months in because the world was shut down,” she shared. “We knew we wanted to start a family, and I was like, ‘This is perfect timing. Usually I’m on a plane 250 days out of the year, and let’s just get all of the eggs stocked and ready,’ and we have tons of them just waiting.”

Hilton later told Glamour UK in 2023 that they ended up undergoing the embryo process seven times and have garnered 20 boys but she was doing it again in hopes of a girl. She and Reum have welcomed son Phoenix and daughter London via surrogate.

Rita Ora

Rita Ora underwent two rounds of egg freezing, at ages 24 and 27, after seeing her mother experience early menopause as a result of her breast cancer treatments at age 39.

“[Back then] a doctor told me it was a really good time to preserve the best quality [eggs],” Ora told Women’s Health U.K. in March 2026. “It was actually the best advice, because now I’m in my mid-30s and I have a lot of friends really trying to figure it out.”

The singer added that she was “trying to get ahead” of everything her mother went through. Ora became a stepmother to her husband, Taika Waititi’s two daughters after they married in 2022.

Julianne Hough

Julianne Hough has been open about her egg freezing journey. The Dancing with the Stars host was diagnosed with endometriosis when she was younger and subsequently underwent three rounds of egg retrievals.

“I wasn’t really showing it to be like, ‘I’m going to make a big statement,’ but with the response I got, I realized how important it was,” she told PEOPLE in July 2025 of showing her experience on social media. “I found out I have endometriosis when I was 19 or 20, and I wish back then I would’ve been told to freeze my eggs, but I wasn’t told until later on.”

In addition to her endometriosis, “I have some other health implications that might make [conceiving] challenging, and I got a divorce and now I’m in a different stage of life.” Hough continued, “For me, it’s never been about, ‘I’m not ready,’ but I know it is for some people. I think the time will be right when it’s right.”

“It ain’t easy when you’re doing the shots, but I will say this time around, I had a much better understanding of what I needed,” she shared. “Also, the first time I did it, I didn’t do the shots myself. I went in every day, and they did them for me. Then I was like, ‘Wait, I feel really empowered doing them myself.’ Along the way I was able to call friends who have gone through it at any moment and be like, ‘Hey, I feel really crazy right now. Can you just come over and sit next to me?’ ”

Florence Pugh

Florence Pugh was 27 years old when she was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis and froze her eggs.

“I had this sudden feeling that I should go and get everything checked. I’d had a few weird dreams, I think my body was telling me,” she recalled in a November 2024 episode of Dear Media’s SHE MD podcast. “[The doctor] asked if I’d ever had an egg count done, and I was like, ‘No, what do you mean? I’m so young. Why do I need an egg count?’ ”

The doctor diagnosed the actress with PCOS and endometriosis, so she decided to be “proactive” and freeze her eggs.

“It was just so bizarre because my family are baby-making machines,” Pugh recalled. “My mom had babies into her 40s. My gran had babies throughout … And then of course, I learned completely different information, at age 27, that I need to get my eggs out, and do it quickly, which was just a bit of a mind-boggling realization, and one that I’m really lucky and glad that I found out when I did because I’ve been wanting kids since I was a child.”

Lainey Wilson

Lainey Wilson wanted to be in charge of her fertility so she froze her eggs.

“I think the world and just people in general try to give you a timeline when things should be happening, and I’m just so thankful that I was given the opportunity to do the egg retrieval and that it was successful,” she told PEOPLE in April 2026. “I’ve focused on my career for so long, and I definitely have something to show for it with my music, but I have other dreams too.”

Jessica Williams

Even though Jessica Williams is unsure if having children is for her, she has frozen her eggs three times.

“It’s pretty gross and it’s pretty intense, but it’s normal,” Williams told PEOPLE in September 2025. “Freezing your eggs is not having a baby, but you do inject yourself with hormones and you do get cravings, and you do get really bloated.”

The Shrinking actress added that “it’s so much work freezing your eggs,” especially for someone who’s unsure about a future family.

“I was like, ‘I still don’t know if I want kids. I still don’t know, but I’m just doing this just for insurance.’ It didn’t give me baby fever doing it. It gave me baby frostbite,” she quipped. “It was insane. I am like, ‘No, no.’ ”

Jamie Chung

Jamie Chung was 35 years old when she retrieved her eggs in 2019.

“Here I am over a week ago at my doctors office getting an orientation/lesson on how to inject myself with growth hormones. One of the first major steps for egg retrieval,” Chung wrote on Instagram at the time. “I did my research on facilities and then it all boiled down to these deciding factors; I want options. I’m buying time. I’m unsure and scared and hopeful.”

The Sucker Punch actress and her husband, fellow actor Bryan Greenberg, later welcomed twin boys via surrogate in October 2021.
