A 38-year-old tourist has died after falling from a popular tourist scenic spot in Spain, according to reports.
The incident took place near the Mount Urgull area in San Sebastian, Spain on Friday, May 15, according to the local San Sebastian Basque newspaper, El Diario Vasco. The outlet also reports that the British man's body was discovered by a passerby on the Paseo Nuevo coastal walkway at approximately midday after he fell at 11:00 a.m. local time.
According to the Basque Government's Department of Security, as cited by El Diario Vasco, the man died instantly after the "considerable" fall.

El Diario Vasco reports a witness, a waiter from a local hotel, saying they saw Basque police [Ertzaintza] following the incident and noting that traffic was blocked.
Another waiter explained that "a colleague of mine saw a fire truck with its ladder extended," in an attempt to retrieve the body, as reported by the outlet.
The Independent reports that the man's body was taken to the Basque Institute of Legal Medicine to undergo an autopsy.

The location of the incident is a popular tourist destination with beautiful views over the Salamanca promenade and Zuloaga Square, while the Paseo Nuevo is a popular trail for climbers aiming to scale the nearby mountain.
According to The Independent, a similarly tragic incident took place at Mount Urgull in 2019 when a 65-year-old tourist died in similar circumstances.
El Diario Vasco, meanwhile, notes several similar incidents, such as in 2013 when a 20-year-old man died after a rockfall from the slope of Mount Urgull. Also in 2018, a 16-year-old boy was "seriously" injured in a fall on the mountain, while a year later, in the summer of 2019, a woman died after falling from Mount Urgull to the Paseo Nuevo promenade.
PEOPLE has reached out to the Ertzaintza for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.
