My favorite bras are all looking a little worse for wear. But as a 38DD, finding supportive bras that are actually cute can be a challenge.

That’s why I turned to content creator and undergarment expert Caralyn Mirand Koch for help. “The biggest mistake I see is people focusing on whether a bra has an underwire instead of how it’s actually constructed,” she says. “A well-designed bra distributes weight through the band, cups, and straps — not just the shoulders.”

Armed with Mirand Koch’s expertise on how to choose the most supportive bras for large chests, I’m ready to overhaul my collection. Her suggestions include strapless, adhesive, and wireless bras from brands like Elomi, Cakes Body, and Shapermint, and they start at $20 on Amazon.

Mirand Koch calls this one of her “favorite bras for fuller busts” because “it provides exceptional lift without adding bulk.” It’s designed with supportive side panels that “help center the bust” and beautiful embroidery around the cups. It’s available in up to a K cup, depending on the band size.

What to Look For

When it comes to choosing the best bra for large breasts, Mirand Koch has three suggestions:

  1. Lift and separation: Look for encapsulated cups, which “lift and separate each breast instead of compressing everything together,” she says.
  2. Cushioned straps: No one wants to worry about their bra straps hurting their shoulders all day long. Instead, look for bras with wider, cushioned straps, which will “stay in place without digging in,” Mirand Koch advises.
  3. Supportive design features: Above all, Mirand Koch recommends wearing bras that provide adequate support. Look for features like side support panels, reinforced sling construction, multiple rows of hook-and-eye closures, and high-quality fabrics with recovery so your bra “maintains its support throughout the day,” she says.

Not only is this wireless jelly bra one of Amazon’s top-selling everyday bras, but it’s a top pick for Mirand Koch, too. “The bonded jelly strip support system provides lift that’s surprisingly comparable to an underwire bra,” she says, adding that it’s “one of the most supportive” wireless bras she’s tried. She also appreciates its seamless construction, which makes it “virtually invisible under T-shirts.”

What to Avoid

All bras are not designed for all breasts. “If complete separation is your top priority, an underwire bra is still the gold standard,” says Mirand Koch. With that in mind, she recommends avoiding these three pitfalls for larger chests:

  1. Thin, stretchy bralettes: Since styles like this have no internal structure, “they typically can’t provide enough lift or support,” she says.
  2. Very narrow straps: “These tend to concentrate weight on the shoulders and become uncomfortable over time,” says Mirand Koch.
  3. Sizing improperly: “Don’t size up in the band to accommodate a larger bust,” Mirand Koch recommends. Instead, look for a properly fitted band, so your shoulders “aren’t carrying all the weight,” she says.

I wear a fair amount of sundresses, so I’m always on the lookout for wireless bras that are supportive but won’t poke out between the spaghetti straps — and this Mirand Koch-approved strapless bra definitely fits the bill. “A supportive strapless bra is notoriously difficult to find for larger cup sizes, but this one stays in place thanks to its wide band and structured construction,” she says. “It’s a great option for summer dresses and special occasions when you don’t want to sacrifice comfort for adequate support.”

Support, Support, Support

While Mirand Koch points out that a supportive bra doesn’t just focus on the band, that part of the bra is still pretty important. “90 percent of your support comes from the band,” she says.

If you’re tired of your larger breasts bouncing uncomfortably every time you go for a run, try this sports bra that Mirand Koch says “encapsulates each breast individually to reduce bounce while still providing lift and shaping.” In fact, it’s her “go-to recommendation for high-impact activity,” and she says it’s “much more comfortable during workouts.” It comes in sizes 28DD–40HH.

How to Go Wireless

Love wearing wireless bras? I do, too. Mirand Koch recommends ones with “structured support features” like bonded support zones, molded cups, or jelly strip technology, “rather than relying on stretchy fabric alone,” she says.

Summer wedding season is in full swing, and if your wedding guest dress has an open back, you don’t have to worry about going braless. “This is a great backless solution for when you’d like some support,” Mirand Koch says of this adhesive strapless bra with tapered side wings and an inset clasp that works to provide instant cleavage. It’s crafted from medical-grade silicone that’s reusable, washable, and dermatologist-tested for sensitive skin.
