I’m a sneaker snob, so when I try a new pair, I expect a lot of them. They need to be comfortable for walking long distances, require no break-in time, and look good with everything in my closet. I know my standards are high, but I’ve been vindicated, because Adidas’ Japan Shoes tick every box.
I decided to test the style after seeing Anne Hathaway and Hilary Duff wear them. Hathaway paired hers with a monochromatic silk tank dress while Duff went even more casual in a black workout set and white button-down. Now that I have my own, they’ve turned into my go-to shoe.

I have multiple pairs of Adidas sneakers, but most are solid with no pattern. That’s why I opted to test the pony hair cheetah. In my opinion, animal print is a neutral, and that’s proven to be true with these sneakers. I’ve paired them with a red linen mini dress for a funky pop, wide-leg jeans, denim shorts, and even a striped linen skirt — and no, the two prints never clashed (neutral, remember?). And you’re bound to find something you like within the 27 color and pattern options.
While the sneakers look cool with everything, they also needed to be comfortable to get my sneaker snob stamp of approval. Turns out, they’re my most wearable pair yet. The low profile scoops around my ankle and supports my heel with a padded back flap, and the rubber outsole has plenty of traction when I’m walking on wet sidewalks or freshly mopped restaurant floors. While they don’t have a thick outsole, there’s plenty of cushion inside, as well as a just-right amount of arch support.
To put this Adidas option to the true test, I wore them for the first time on a casual anniversary date with my husband, strolling through one of Atlanta’s most walkable neighborhoods. The area has stairs, cracked sidewalks, and stone backstreets, so the sneakers were tried on over two miles of city terrain. Not only did I avoid blisters, but my feet didn’t hurt a single moment.
I’m not the only person singing the sneakers’ praises, either. Like me, one person who spent “hours walking in the city” said the style was “comfortable from the moment it was taken out from its box.” Others said they “had no problem at all” walking for hours, and that they love them so much they bought three pairs. Plus, they “go with everything.”
