There’s still a whole frontier left to explore in Little House on the Prairie.
The Netflix series was renewed for a second season in March 2026 — months before season 1 even debuted on the streaming platform.
“The exceptional work by [showrunner] Rebecca Sonnenshine and the entire cast and crew on season 1 has established a rich foundation of storytelling for years to come,” Jinny Howe, Netflix’s head of U.S. and Canada scripted series, said in a statement. “With its hopeful spirit and emotional authenticity, we’re confident that Little House will deliver even more of what fans truly love.”
Little House on the Prairie follows Charles (Luke Bracey) and Caroline Ingalls (Crosby Fitzgerald) as they raise their daughters, Mary (Skywalker Hughes), Laura (Alice Halsey) and, later, Carrie on the American frontier, where the family faces the hardships, triumphs and everyday adventures of pioneer life.
For fans who have already finished all eight episodes of Little House on the Prairie season 1, here is everything to know about season 2, including production details and who is returning.

Netflix hasn’t released an official synopsis for Little House on the Prairie season 2, but there are already several clues about where the story is headed.
Showrunner Sonnenshine has emphasized that the series is drawing directly from Laura Ingalls Wilder’s book series of the same name. Season 1 adapts Ingalls Wilder’s 1935 novel Little House on the Prairie, following Charles, Caroline, Mary and Laura Ingalls as they build a homestead on the Kansas frontier. By the end of the season, however, the family is forced to leave after a land agreement requires settlers to vacate the area.
Before they set off, family friend John Edwards (Warren Christie) encourages the Ingalls family to join him in heading to Walnut Grove, Minn. “Heard the land is good, and the people are kind,” he says in the final minutes of season 1.
The mention of Walnut Grove appears to set up the events of Wilder’s 1937 novel, On the Banks of Plum Creek, which follows the Ingalls family as they settle in Minnesota and begin the next chapter of their lives.

The Ingalls family will return for another chapter of frontier life in season 2. Luke Bracey and Crosby Fitzgerald are set to reprise their roles as Charles “Pa” and Caroline “Ma” Ingalls, alongside Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls and Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls.
“It’s a huge privilege to be able to play this amazing character,” Halsey told PEOPLE in July 2026. “She’s been an icon across generations. I felt a lot of pressure, but I was surrounded by amazing castmates, and I’m just so glad that I could do it with them.”
Warren Christie is also expected to return as family friend John Edwards after encouraging the Ingalls family to head to Walnut Grove, Minn., in the season 1 finale.
Because the Ingalls family’s journey is taking them out of Kansas, many of the supporting characters introduced in season 1 are seemingly unlikely to return as series regulars, though some could still make guest appearances.

Season 2 will introduce several familiar faces from Ingalls Wilder’s beloved books, including Laura’s longtime rival, Nellie Oleson. Newcomer Willa Dunn was cast as the spirited troublemaker in May 2026.
“On the surface, Nellie is a world-class spoiled princess and playground bully. Smart and supremely confident, sharp-tongued but easily wounded, Nellie is full of contradictions,” Netflix wrote of the infamous character. “One thing is certain: She lives and breathes to make Laura miserable.”
Also joining the cast are Charlotte Sullivan as Nellie’s outspoken mother, Margaret Oleson, and Rachelle Lefevre as Walnut Grove schoolteacher Eva Beadle, per Deadline. Their arrivals signal the Ingalls family’s transition to Walnut Grove and the introduction of the colorful community that plays a central role in Ingalls Wilder’s later books.
