Former TV news producer Maksym "Max" Oseredchuk has died following a Russian drone strike in Ukraine.

Oseredchuk, 30, was killed in the strike on Wednesday, June 24, while serving in Ukraine’s military according to ABC News.

The Ukraine native had only been in the military for a few months prior to his death, and served as a producer and driver for ABC beforehand, as noted in a tribute on Good Morning America.

Oseredchuk is survived by his wife, Kateryna, and his baby daughter, Maria, who was born in September 2025, according to ABC News.

Born on Nov. 4, 1995 in the city of Vuhledar in the Donetsk region, Oseredchuk had a master's degree in business economics from the University of Vinnytsia, according to ABC News.

He reportedly worked as a logistics manager for several years before joining ABC following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 that sparked a war that has since killed or wounded hundreds of thousands of people.

Oseredchuk was based out of Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, and worked as a news producer and driver in the earlier years of the war.

“He was our friend,” ABC's Gio Benitez said on GMA, adding that Oseredchuk’s smile “was what defined him.”

Benitez described Oseredchuk as a “warm” and “calm” person who helped keep ABC colleagues safe while reporting on the conflict on the ground in Ukraine.

“He was so plugged in to the latest on Russian movements,” Benitez explained, adding, “Max had the answers. Without Max, we would have been lost in every way.”

Max was “committed to the fundamental mission of journalism” and believed “showing the world the truth would somehow make it better,” Benitez said.

More recently, he had been working with The New York Times.

Oseredchuk also emulated his father, Sasha, who has also worked as a driver for international media, according to ABC News.

After being drafted into the military, Oseredchuk told ABC News, “If this is what fate has brought me, I will defend my country and my daughter.”

“We will miss him terribly,” he concluded.
