An icon knows an icon when she sees one—just ask Zendaya or Halle Berry.

After Zendaya, 30, paid tribute to Berry’s look at the 2002 premiere of Die Another Day with a similar shimmering dress and bob hairstyle at the 78th Emmy Awards on Monday, Sept. 14, Berry reacted to the sweet gesture on Instagram in a series of Instagram Stories posts.

Berry, 60, began by sharing stylist Law Roach’s Instagram Stories post, which featured side-by-side images of Zendaya and Berry, originally shared by The Zoe Report. The Crime 101 star inserted an animated heart under the photos and tagged Roach and Zendaya.

The event marked one of Zendaya’s first appearances in a brand-new pixie cut, styled with texture and lift.

“For Zendaya, the inspiration is a classic pixie reimagined through a modern, editorial lens,” hairstylist Coree Moreno said in a press release. Moreno also used ghd styling products to help Zendaya’s hair have a “feminine and refined” look with a “little rebellion.”

Berry’s photo in the post, meanwhile, showed her rocking her own pixie cut while wearing a sparkly and sheer Collette Dinnigan minidress at the 2002 premiere of Die Another Day.

In a second Instagram Stories post, Berry shared Refinery29’s interview with Roach, in which he confirmed that she inspired Zendaya’s look.

“She murdered the night,” Berry added.

During a virtual panel for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association during the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, Berry said Zendaya was a “walking embodiment” of a shift in Black women’s success in Hollywood.

Zendaya “is proof-positive that things are changing and I couldn’t be prouder and I know you probably can’t be prouder of yourself, which is most important,” Berry said at the time. “But it’s proof that it’s changing, for sure.”

Zendaya will next be seen on the big screen in Dune: Part Three, which opens in theaters on Dec. 18.
