Helena Bonham Carter is no longer appearing in season 4 of The White Lotus.
The actress, 59, departed the Emmy-winning series, PEOPLE can confirm. Deadline was first to report the cast change.
“With filming just underway on Season 4 of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,” an HBO spokesperson said in a statement. “The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks."
"HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won't get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon," the statement continued.

The upcoming season of the hit HBO series will take place at a luxury resort in France, according to an April 2026 press release.
The new season is filming on the French Riviera, in locations including Cannes, St. Tropez and Monaco. The announcement also noted that some filming will take place in Paris, but the story — which involves the Cannes Film Festival — will mostly be set along the Côte d'Azur.
The production will film at the Airelles Château de la Messardière in Saint-Tropez as the White Lotus du Cap and the Hôtel Martinez as the White Lotus Cannes. The anthology series has previously filmed at real Four Seasons resorts, beginning in Hawaii for season 1, moving to Italy for season 2 and Thailand for season 3.

The upcoming season is set to star Alexander Ludwig, AJ Michalka, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, Charlie Hall, Chris Messina, Max Greenfield and Kumail Nanjiani.
