“Surprise dances are kind of ‘our thing’ at family events,” Bryce Querubin tells PEOPLE

One mom-to-be was in for a surprise at her baby shower thanks to her husband and brothers-in-law.
Earlier this summer, Bryce Querubin, 26, and his wife Yesenia, 26, celebrated their baby on the way alongside family and friends at their home in California’s Bay Area.
While food, music and shower games were all expected at the party, what came as a special surprise was an impressive choreographed dance from Bryce and his two brothers, Branlee, 34, and BJ, 29, to *NSYNC’s “I Want You Back.”
“About a week before the shower, a dance trend came across my feed that I thought was so good, and I posted it to my story. I tagged my brothers, and they were both immediately down to do it,” Bryce tells PEOPLE.
“We all grew up dancing and performing from middle school through college in some way, shape, or form,” he adds. “We all kind of have our own experience dancing, whether it be Bj and Branlee being big dance teams or me growing up around them being on dance teams, and then me making TikToks of me dancing.”

While the dance looked as if it was practiced for weeks, Bryce admits “it came together fast and was pretty impromptu.”
“Branlee lives in San Diego, so the three of us never practiced together in person — the run we did at the shower was literally the very first time all three of us had done it together, start to finish,” he reveals. “I saw BJ the day after I posted the trend and we started trying to figure it out — it’s only about a 15-second dance, so we figured we could pick it up. About three days out from the shower, we were checking in on whether everyone had it down. Branlee said he had it locked early; I finalized mine the night before.”

The three put on the big performance right after guests finished up with some shower games. “I gave the DJ the cue, we walked over, and went for it,” he recalls.
Everyone at the shower went crazy for the performance, says Bryce, who went on to welcome his daughter Alaiya in August.
“The reaction from family was exactly what I expected — wild, in a good way. Surprise dances are kind of ‘our thing’ at family events: all three of us performed one at my wedding last September, and at Branlee’s wedding a couple years before that,” he shares. “We grew up performing here and there, so this wasn’t new — at this point the family almost expects us to do something, and they hype us up harder than anyone every single time, which is honestly what makes it so fun to keep doing.”

Bryce later posted the video on his social media, where he has been sharing content for over six years.
“I have had some success, but I didn’t really take it seriously until January of this year,” he says of his page. “I made a decision to just put things out there without being a perfectionist and without overthinking views or likes — the philosophy being: if I think it’s good, make it, share it, and hope for the best.”

“This video taking off is proof that mindset is working — it wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t made that shift,” he adds.

The new dad says this definitely won’t be the last time that he and his brothers will perform a surprise dance.
“If BJ ever has a wedding, or anyone else in the family wants a performance for their event, my brothers and I are all in,” he shares. “It’s something we’ve bonded over since we were kids and genuinely love doing — we’ll keep it going as long as we’re enjoying it and people are into it.”
