For the past 31 Father’s Days, my older sister and I have gifted our dad everything from hand-painted coffee mugs to T-shirts from his alma maters (of which he has many). This year, I decided to go straight to the source for fresh inspiration. In his ever-obliging character, my dad, Patrick Baskette, gladly divulged which presents any father would love to unwrap.
Among his suggestions, you’ll find a pair of “cloud-like” Hoka sneakers, an affordable watch that’s as practical as it is stylish, and a set of weights that can oscillate between hand weights, bar bells, and kettle bells.
“Either think hyper-practical or ultra-thoughtful, and your present will hit the mark,” my dad advises.

Hoka Clifton 10 Running Shoes

$168 $150 at Amazon
In the words of my dad, these Hoka sneakers are “the most comfortable shoes I own.” Ever since he bought his first pair last year, he’s been wearing them to run errands, work out at the gym, and walk the dogs. They check all the boxes thanks to the cushioned footbed, shock-absorbing design, and breathable exterior.
Mark & Graham Sporty Stripe Golf Headcover

$59 at Markandgraham.com
One way to make this Father’s Day extra special? Show your dad you care about his hobbies with a monogrammed golf headcover. “A serious golfer spends a lot of time researching and finding the right set of clubs,” Baskette explained. “They’re his prized possessions.” Now, every time he looks at them, he’ll know you’re right there with him.
Lululemon Fast and Free Short-Sleeve Shirt

$78 $44 at Lululemon
My dad particularly approves of this “high-quality” shirt because of its classic fit that doesn’t feel too tight. Bonus points go to the moisture-wicking material and lightweight feel, which are ideal for summer yard work and long gym workouts.
Yexiya Golf Scorecard Book, $8 with Prime

$10 $8 at Amazon
“This is a luxury item a golfer probably wouldn’t think to buy themselves,” Baskette says. “Why not keep score in style?” The scorecard book comes in navy, red, green, gray, and more colors, so pick his favorite hue for an extra personal touch.
Bertucci DX3 Field Watch

$75 at Amazon
Bertucci watches have been my dad’s go-to’s for almost two decades. They’re equal parts stylish and practical. Plus, it’s my dad’s long-held belief that you don’t need to spend thousands of dollars to buy a sleek timepiece. They also have impressive batteries, as my dad only needs to replace them once every decade or so.
Fitplam Adjustable Weights Set

$76 $68 at Amazon
According to my athletic dad, “using adjustable dumbbells is one inexpensive and unintrusive way to include regular strength building into your daily routine.” He’s particularly impressed with how this set can be transformed into a push-up stand, barbell, and kettle bells. Different weights are available from 20 to 90 pounds.
Brooks Brothers Silk Geometric Tie

$118 $80 at Brooksbrothers.com
This might surprise you, but it’s my dad’s firm opinion that ties are still great gifts for men. “While they're being worn less these days, ties are still an essential part of a man's wardrobe,” he shared. “Whether they’re meeting their bosses, hosting clients, or attending a wedding, men appreciate a varied collection to choose from.” He recommends this Brooks Brothers option for its “superior quality and timeless design.”
Afun Chef Apron with Oversized Pockets

$27 $19 at Amazon
My dad is the baker of the family, so last time I was home I asked him to teach me our family’s biscuit recipe. As we were kneading the dough, he made an off-hand comment about how handy an apron would be — noted! In his opinion, an apron would also be helpful during summer cookouts, so he wouldn’t mess up his clothes while grilling up glistening mountains of burgers and hot dogs.
Eagle Creek Pack-It Reveal Quick Trip Dopp Kit

$30 at Nordstrom
When you travel as much as my dad does, you “learn to be an efficient packer.” One way to help your dad streamline his suitcase even further is with an ultra-functional dopp kit. Crucial features my dad recommends? “At least two separated compartments, so items like your toothbrush and razor don’t touch.” For a swankier vibe, check out this discounted leather option.
Herschel Supply Co. Novel Recycled Nylon Duffle Bag

$110 $72 at Nordstrom
You can also never go wrong with a multi-use duffle bag. If your dad likes to go to the gym, its separate compartments “can house his sneakers, sweaty clothes, or shower towel,” says Baskette. Otherwise, it’s ideal for packing a few days worth of clothes and essentials for a weekend trip.
