One of my 2026 goals was to tighten up my budget. Now, halfway through the year, I’ve realized I haven’t been very successful (oops!). But it’s never too late to try again, so I’m starting with swapping pricey skincare for budget-friendly finds.

To cut my costs without sacrificing my skin’s health, I asked board-certified dermatologists Dr. Annette Czernik and Dr. Danny Guo for their drugstore recommendations that can easily be found at CVS. If you also want to refresh your skincare routine for less, keep scrolling for their favorite affordable swaps — starting at just $3.

If face washes make your skin feel tight but you still want a thorough clean, this hydrating formula gets the job done. Dr. Czernik says it removes dirt, oil, and sunscreen without stripping the skin and is packed with ceramides and hyaluronic acid “to reinforce the skin barrier and help skin retain moisture.” After use, your skin should feel “soft rather than tight.”

Don’t compromise on cleansing when you’re in a rush. This micellar water uses micelles to attract and trap dirt, oil, and makeup without needing a rinse or second cleanse. It provides a “gentle” clean, according to Dr. Guo, but he warns that those with sensitive skin should be cautious. Pro tip: He says the product can help prevent greasy scalps, too.

If you’ve been afraid to try a drugstore vitamin C, don’t be. This one comes recommended by Dr. Guo, who dubs it an “amazing affordable product” with a scientifically backed active ingredient, L-ascorbic acid. It’s formulated to brighten, protect the skin barrier, and provide antioxidant support, preventing free radical damage. Dr. Guo particularly likes the squeeze-tube design, which keeps the serum from oxidizing, and he says it’s suitable for all skin types.

RoC Deep Wrinkle Rich Cream

As a highly studied skincare ingredient, retinol has been shown to improve the appearance of fine lines and reduce uneven texture. This specific cream aids cell turnover and promotes collagen production, and according to Dr. Czernik, its concentration is high enough to be effective yet won’t cost nearly as much as pricier brands. She does warn that you should start slowly, applying it only two or three times per week. Then, increase your frequency as your skin acclimates.
