Wendy’s golden era is back.

The fast-food chain confirmed to PEOPLE that the signature yellow packaging many customers grew up with is returning to restaurants beginning later this month after it was replaced with a red-and-white color scheme.

“Fans have been asking for its return for years, making it one of the most requested comebacks in Wendy’s history,” a spokesperson for the company said.

“Yellow has been part of Wendy’s since the very beginning and is something many fans instantly recognize,” the statement continued. “Its return celebrates that connection while spotlighting the qualities that have always defined Wendy’s, including fresh, never-frozen beef and hot, juicy hamburgers made to order.”

According to Wendy’s website, founder Dave Thomas opened his first Wendy’s restaurant in Columbus, Ohio, on Nov. 15, 1969.

A Reddit thread from 2025 titled “Bring BACK Yellow Wendy’s” had fans sharing their memories of dining at the chain when they were younger.

“Eating Yellow Wendy’s in the Sunroom is an experience that should have never went away,” read one comment.

“I have a few fond memories of having days out with my dad when I was young and I vividly remember him taking me to Wendy’s for lunch and seeing all the yellow,” someone else wrote. “I miss it.”

The company made another change prompted by customer feedback earlier this year.

The chain announced in March that it made tweaks to its Spicy Chicken Sandwich, including a new marinade, a crispy panko-style breading with nine spices, a soft potato bun, a “richer” mayo and pickles.

The chain also updated Wendy’s Classic Chicken Sandwich with the new potato bun and homestyle mayo.

The restaurant said it was making upgrades to the rest of its sandwich lineup, including the Dave’s Single, Dave’s Double, Dave’s Triple, Baconator, Son of Baconator, Big Bacon Classic, Asiago Ranch Chicken Club, Spicy Asiago Ranch Chicken Club and the Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich.

Lindsay Radkoski, the company’s U.S. Chief Marketing Officer, said the changes came after more than a year of testing.
