  • Justin Long is sharing that he once formed a bowling team called “The Alright Alright Alrights” with Aubrey Plaza, Oscar Isaac and other celebrity friends
  • Long said Matthew McConaughey served as the team’s “spiritual coach”
  • In an Instagram post, Long blamed Isaac’s Star Wars casting for ending their “professional bowling” dreams

Justin Long is taking fans back to an oddly specific — and hilariously star-studded — moment from the early 2010s involving bowling, celebrity friends and a tribute to Matthew McConaughey.

In an Instagram post shared Wednesday, May 6, 47-year-old Long joked about a short-lived “professional bowling team” he formed around 2011 with fellow actors Aubrey Plaza, Oscar Isaac, Kate Mara and Max Minghella.

“Sometime around 2011, we all quit acting to form a professional bowling team ‘The Alright Alright Alrights,’ ” Long wrote, referencing McConaughey’s famous catchphrase from Dazed and Confused.

Long added that McConaughey himself was deeply connected to the fictional team — at least, spiritually.

“(@officiallymcconaughey was our coach… more of a SPIRITUAL coach),” Long joked in his caption.

At the time, many of the actors involved were on the verge of major career breakthroughs. Plaza was becoming a breakout comedy favorite through Parks and Recreation, while Isaac was steadily rising in Hollywood before eventually landing one of his biggest roles.

And according to Long, Isaac's success is precisely what led to the bowling team’s unraveling.

“Then Oscar got a role in STAR WARS and that was it… our dreams were dashed,” he wrote.

Isaac famously joined the Star Wars universe as pilot Poe Dameron beginning with 2015’s The Force Awakens, a role that catapulted his career.

In his Instagram post, Long joked that he still hasn’t recovered from the group’s collapse all these years later

“I know Oscar is in a new show called BEEF… it reminded me that I still have beef with HIM…” Long continued, referencing Isaac’s role in the Netflix series, Beef.

“I wonder if that’s what this Netflix show is about,” he added.

The actor finished the post with one final tongue-in-cheek jab at his former teammate: “I know one day we’ll have a laugh about this but right now, 15 years later, it’s still too fresh 😞”
