Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick are celebrating 38 years of marriage.
The actor, 68, and the actress, 61, said “I do” in 1988. They marked their 38th wedding anniversary with a joint post on Instagram on Friday, Sept. 4.
“38 years with my love,” Bacon wrote in the caption.
The couple shared a photo of them smiling and sitting closely together in the backseat of a car, seemingly en route to the 58th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles in August 2006, based on their formalwear. Sedgwick wore a voluminous, ruffled gray gown while Bacon opted for a classic black suit. The Footloose star lovingly leaned against Sedgwick, who rested her hand on his face.
Bacon and Sedgwick met while working on Lemon Sky back in 1987 and quickly fell in love. By December that year, they were engaged. Less than a year later, they tied the knot on Sept. 4, 1988. The pair went on to expand their family, and have welcomed two children: Travis, 37, and Sosie, 34.

The beloved Hollywood couple often share sweet glimpses into their relationship on social media. Earlier this year for Bacon’s 68th birthday in July, Sedgwick compiled photos from their decades-long romance into an Instagram reel set to Olivia Rodrigo‘s “u + me = The Closer alum’s 61st birthday in August, Bacon returned the love by posting an Instagram reel of his own set to Rodrigo’s “stupid song.” He wrote, “Happy birthday @kyrasedgwickofficial, to another year of loving you 🤍.”
Over the years, the couple has dropped several gems in terms of relationship advice — and it’s a common question the couple gets, as Sedgwick previously told PEOPLE in 2020.
“I joke that the secret to a successful marriage is to not take marriage advice from celebrities,” she said. “I guess if I had to think too much about [our marriage], that would probably not be a good thing. We just got lucky. I honestly believe that’s truth.”
Jokes and luck aside, she shared one lesson: “That thing people do, ‘If only I had this, if only I had that …’ There has to be some piece of wholeness that is within yourself before you can let somebody love you the way that you need to be loved.”

Three years later in 2023, Sedgwick again opened up about her secret to a long-lasting union, sharing how laughter is key.
“A sense of humor is crucial,” Sedgwick said, adding of Bacon, “He is very freaking funny.”
