Cavallari discussed her children’s privilege in an appearance on ‘Aspire with Emma Grede’

Kristin Cavallari is teaching her three children financial responsibility.
The Hills alum, 39, shared on Tuesday’s July 7 episode of Aspire with Emma Grede that she typically has her kids fly coach while she’s in first class on family trips.
“Something as small as they fly coach, I’m flying first class,” Cavallari said of her efforts to teach her kids about money. “That was important to me when they became old enough that they could. It’s not [difficult to do] when they’re older. I’m like, ‘Bye guys, have fun back there.’ ”
The TV personality shares sons Camden Jack, 13, Jaxon Wyatt, 12, and daughter Saylor James, 10, with ex-husband Jay Cutler.
She added that “It’s good for them” and thinks that “the little things like that, as a parent, make, ultimately, I think, a big difference in the long run.”
The reality star turned businesswoman went on to explain how she demonstrates the importance of financial responsibility to her three kids.
“My kids don’t just get whatever they want,” Cavallari said. “And if they want something, they have to work for it.”
She explained that last summer, her sons “created their own little businesses” and learned about entrepreneurship through the experience.

“So one of my boys was washing people’s windows,” Cavallari told Grede on the podcast. “And the other one was washing people’s garbage cans. Because if they want something, they got to go work for it. And they got to make it happen.”
After starring in both Laguna Beach and The Hills in the early aughts, Cavallari shifted focus to creating her lifestyle brand, Uncommon James, and relocating to Nashville. She told Grede she is still learning to balance her personal and professional life.

“I think there are so many ways to come into being a businesswoman and a mother, and there is no one size fits all,” Cavallari added.
Cavallari recently told PEOPLE exclusively that her kids are not interested in her reality TV past, and have discovered their own interests as they enter their early teen years.
“They’ve seen little bits and pieces, but they think it’s really boring,” Cavallari explained at the red carpet premiere of The Reunion: Laguna Beach in Santa Monica, Calif., on March 26. “They have no interest in watching a full episode.”
“At the end of the day, I’m just Mom,” Cavallari told PEOPLE at the time. “And yes, this is something I went through, but they know me as Mom … they know that that’s not me.”
