Léa Seydoux is a woman confronted with the unthinkable in her new movie.

“Lucy, a concert pianist, has just relocated her family from the city to a country house in the hope of easing her husband Philip’s severe burnout,” reads an official synopsis from the Cannes Film Festival, where Gentle Monster had its premiere in May.
“Before they have a chance to set up their new home, an early morning police visit tears their world apart,” it continues. “Isolated and desperate to protect her young son, Lucy must face the situation alone, trapped between the man she loves and the fear of what he may have done.”
“What are these secrets you have?” Lucy can be seen asking her husband in the new trailer. Playing Elsa, the lead investigator of Philip’s case — who has secrets of her own to grapple with — is Jella Haase.

Catherine Deneuve, who plays Eloise, asks Seydoux whether she still loves the man. The Spectre actress responds that there isn’t “an off-button” for love.
Gentle Monster will screen at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival in September, followed by a theatrical release Oct. 30. It debuts on Netflix Nov. 18.
