An 83-year-old man who went missing while hiking in Grand Canyon National Park has been rescued.
Gerald Guinn of Kanab, Utah, went missing early in the afternoon on Tuesday, July 21, after getting separated from his hiking partner as they were exploring a “remote area of the North Rim” along the Arizona park’s northeast boundary, the National Park Service announced in a previous release.
Guinn, who did not have any camping equipment of hiking gear, was reported missing about four hours later.
The Grand Canyon National Park staff joined the Coconino County Search and Rescue and Kane County Search and Rescue to begin the search on July 21. The search continued on Wednesday, July 22, and efforts included using drones and helicopters to scan the park.
Fortunately, he was found roughly 2.5 miles from where he was last seen around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
“Rescue personnel safely extricated Guinn via a litter carry to a nearby roadway, where he was evaluated by emergency medical personnel before being transported,” officials said in an updated statement.
