A Florida mother is accused of punishing her daughter by tying her up using handcuffs and rope and burning her — though she allegedly told police the child was injured while making flan.

Gineth Ramirez’s 10-year-old daughter told a child protective investigator that her mother tortures her by tying her up and burning her to punish her, WPLG Local 10 and NBC 6 South Florida reported, citing an arrest report. The 35-year-old parent, who is now facing a child abuse charge, allegedly told detectives that her daughter was injured while making flan, per the outlets.

The arrest report states that the girl told the child protective investigator that Ramirez “burned her on her arm and legs because she misbehaves” and “makes her sit on a brown chair and ties her hands to the back with a rope or handcuffs,” according to WPLG.

The girl, who alleged that her mom had burned her arm and legs, spoke out about the abuse after the child protective investigator was called to her school in Hialeah, Fla.

The 10-year-old was suffering from what “appeared to be first-degree burn marks,” the investigator said, per WPLG. She had the marks on her right forearm, right shin and upper right thigh, WPLG and NBC 6 reported.

Following the girl’s meeting with the investigator, detectives questioned Ramirez, who allegedly claimed the child had sustained one of the burns while they were making flan together, but could not explain the other two marks, per the Florida outlets.

The detective wrote in the arrest report, per WPLG, “The victim and she were in the kitchen cooking flan … the victim told her she wanted to eat a piece of the flan … she handed the victim the spoon with flan and told her to blow because it was hot … she handed the victim the spoon, but she did not grab it and instead it fell on her leg.”

The Florida mom also told detectives that she does not use corporal punishment when her daughter misbehaves, but does make the child sit on a chair and face the wall sometimes, WPLG and NBC 6 reported.

According to WPLG, Ramirez — who also has a 2-year-old son — told police she “has never” tied her daughter’s hands with ropes or handcuffs.

Ramirez was booked into jail on Thursday, Sept. 10, and charged with aggravated child abuse causing great bodily harm, a first-degree felony in Florida, according to jail records viewed by PEOPLE.

PEOPLE was unable to reach an attorney for Ramirez.
