Queen Sonja of Norway is sharing how her daughter-in-law, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, is doing as she recovers from a lung transplant.
After Crown Princess Mette-Marit, 52, underwent a lung transplant last week, the Norwegian Queen continued her royal duties with a visit to an art exhibit in Kristiansand. When she was asked a question about her daughter-in-law's recovery, Queen Sonja, 88, gave a positive update: "It's simply fantastic. It's fantastic that it went so well."
On June 17, the Royal House of Norway announced that Crown Prince Haakon's wife had undergone surgery after being diagnosed with chronic pulmonary fibrosis in 2018 and recent deteriorations in her health.
"Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mette-Marit has undergone a successful lung transplant at Oslo University Hospital Rikshospitalet in Oslo," said the palace statement.

In another sign that Crown Princess Mette Marit is on the road to recovery, it was announced that her two children with Crown Prince Haakon would attend a World Cup game to support Norway on Monday, June 22.
The Norwegian Embassy in Washington shared the news that Princess Ingrid Alexandra, 22, and Prince Sverre Magnus, 20, would attend the match against Senegal, which is taking place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The news about Crown Princess Mette-Marit's lung transplant came just days after her son from a previous relationship, Marius, 29, was sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty of two counts of rape, among other offenses.
Marius is not in the line of succession to the throne like his half-siblings, but he has joined the royal family at many official events through the years.
Before the verdict was reached, a Norwegian appeal court rejected his request to be released from custody amid his mother's poor health, the BBC reported.
