Prosecutors recounted a family’s nightmare in a British courtroom on Thursday as they laid out charges against a man whose alleged stabbing spree ended last weekend after breaking into a family’s home and fatally knifing a young mother as she laid in bed with her husband and their baby.
The alleged incident happened at a family’s home in Hayes, London on late Sunday night, according to the Metropolitan Police. Authorities said in a news release that Daniel Sean James was arrested outside of the victim’s home and charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of a bladed article.
On Thursday in court, according to the BBC, prosecutors alleged that James, 46, had stabbed a man in his 20s outside before breaking into the home of Kirandeep Kaur and her husband while they slept in bed with their young child.

Prosecutors reportedly alleged that James stabbed Kaur, 24, in the chest while she slept, causing her to scream and wake up her husband who then saw a figure escaping out of their bedroom window in the dark.
BBC reported that prosecutors say James jumped from the family’s bedroom window and broke both of his ankles after landing on the ground. Police then arrested him outside the home and took him to a local hospital for treatment before transporting him to the police station.

“Despite the efforts of emergency services, [Kaur] was sadly pronounced dead at the scene,” police said in a statement. Authorities said the other victim who was stabbed outside remained in the hospital for treatment earlier this week but that his injuries were “non-life threatening.”
James’ plea hearing is set for Oct. 1, according to BBC.
