Tiger Woods‘ son, Charlie Woods, was eliminated from the U.S. Junior Amateur on Wednesday, July 22, when an iPhone camera shutter disrupted a pivotal moment.
Charlie, 17, found himself in a 14-for-2 playoff at the annual national championship at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa., according to The Athletic. After competing during the stroke-play competition portion of the tournament to vie for a spot in the sudden-death playoff, he ultimately lost his spot in the 64-person match-play bracket.
Eli Wessel of Indianapolis and Hudson Kutchma of Westfield, Ind., ultimately advanced in the final two spots in the upcoming bracket, the outlet reported.
As Charlie tried to reach the par-5 hole in two in the decisive moment that cost him his spot in the tournament, he was disrupted by a fan’s phone shutter during his third shot and made a bogey, per The Athletic.
The young golfer, who is committed to play for Florida State University, was seen in a fan-captured video on X saying “Really, man?” and dropping his club after a fan disrupted his backswing.
Charlie recently served as a caddie to his friend Miles Russell during the U.S. Open during the one-day, 36-hole final qualifying event in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., in June.

Since Charlie is following in his golf legend father’s footsteps, Tiger, 50, has been coaching him in the process.
“Tiger loves spending time with Charlie on the golf course, but he has a completely different vibe than Earl had while working with him,” a source told PEOPLE in 2020.

In February 2024, Charlie competed in a pre-qualifier for the tour in the hopes of playing the Cognizant Classic, PEOPLE previously reported. In the competition, 25 players were chosen to advance to a full qualifier, with four of them moving on to the Classic, but Charlie wasn’t one of them. He failed to advance after competing on Feb. 22.
