A Ghanaian witch doctor says he has released Harry Kane from a spell, now that the English striker and his team’s World Cup match against Ghana is over.
"Now I am going to release Harry Kane so that, his next match, he can score,” Nana Kwaku Bonsam, a self-described spiritualist, said in an Instagram post shortly after the match ended in a draw. “Harry, I will come and visit you. Don't be offended. We are friends."
Despite Bonsam’s witchcraft, Kane came close to scoring during the game but missed the goal at close range in the 86th minute. The victory would have secured England a spot in the knockout stage.
"I was waiting for an opportunity like that to fall my way," Kane, 32, later said. "It did and I just couldn't quite get over the ball. But I've been a striker long enough to know they don't always go in."
Returning for his third FIFA World Cup, the 2018 Golden Boot winner is currently England's all-time top goalscorer with 78 goals. He also holds the title for Tottenham Hotspur.

And while he may not have had the backing of a certain spiritualist in Ghana, Kane counts on support from his wife, high-school sweetheart Katie Goodland, and their four children at the tournament.
The soccer star — whose dogs are named Wilson and Brady, after former NFL quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Tom Brady — scored twice in England’s 4-2 victory over Croatia in the World Cup opener.
In an interview with PEOPLE in 2023, Kane shared another American creation he is especially fond of: the "brilliant" Ted Lasso.

"It's a great insight to football. It's got a bit of a professional side to it, but also the lighthearted and jokey side," he told PEOPLE, when asked what he loves about it. "I think the American people especially have a great insight to what goes on in the day-to-day life of footballers."
