An elderly woman on a mobility scooter caused a dangerous crash in the middle of a bike race in Germany on Sunday, June 14.

During the race at the LVM Saarland Trofeo, the woman rolled the tip of her scooter onto the bikers' course, causing a domino-effect crash, Express UK reported. The race, a multi-day cycling event for 17-and 18-year-olds, is in the Saarland region of Germany.

When the scooter collided on the course toward the end of the race, cyclists flipped over their handlebars, including 17-year-old Dutch rider Paul Vriesman, the Australian Broadcasting Channel (ABC) reported.

After Vriesman, who is on the Decathlon CMA CGM development team, was struck, he flipped over the handlebars, causing other cyclists to crash behind him. No serious injuries were reported among the athletes or the woman.

Vriesman confirmed on his Instagram account that he didn't have any major injuries, calling the incident a "nasty crash," per ABC. "Sad to have to DNF this Saarland Trofeo this way due to an old lady who was just living in her own world."

"Not the way I was hoping to finish my first week back to racing after a few months of rehab though," he wrote. "I made some big steps this week towards coming back to my old form."
