Ian Bohen and Jennifer Landon are looking back at a “close call” from the set of Yellowstone.

The series stars participated in Fanboy Expo Knoxville’s Yellowstone Bunkhouse Reunion Panel in Knoxville, Tenn. on Friday, July 10, when they revealed what went down during one scene in particular involving the branding of cattle.

While filming the scene with some “pretty big” cows, Landon, 42, said her costar was “on the back end” of one when things went south. “That cow kind of got itself moving and he got kicked in the face,” Landon said. “And if he wasn’t such a tremendous athlete, I’m telling you, you wouldn’t have a face.”

She then commended Bohen, 49, on his “reflexes.”

“He was bleeding and everyone was laughing, even he was laughing,” she said. “It was like, ‘Oh, wow, that was a close call.’”

Bohen then clarified that he was “not” laughing. “I went down instantly. Just back, straight back,” he said, as Landon said she was “sobbing.”

“I suddenly was like, ‘I’m a girl. This is not fun anymore. Laughing at injury is not okay,’” she said.

Bohen appeared in all five seasons of Yellowstone from 2018 to 2024 as Ryan, while Landon joined for the show’s third season as ranch hand Teeter in 2020, appearing until the show’s conclusion on Paramount Network with season five.

Bohen’s cow kick isn’t the only blooper that’s taken place in the Taylor Sheridan universe of television. During a January appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Landman star Ali Larter recalled getting bit by fire ants while on set of season two.

Larter was filming a scene barefoot with costar Billy Bob Thornton in a “wide open field,” when she felt “something crawling between my toes.” That “something” turned out to be “fire ants biting my toes,” she revealed.

Director Stephen Kay apparently told the actress that she appeared “so emotional” and “connected” in the scene. “And I’m like, ‘I’m crying because I was getting bit by fire ants!’ And I was scared they were gonna yell at me because they weren’t gonna get the shot,” she joked.
