Overcompensating season 1 contains Easter eggs hinting at season 2’s guest stars, Skinner revealed
According to Benito Skinner, the seeds for Overcompensating‘s season 2 cameos have already been planted.
The 32-year-old star, creator and writer of the series shared new insights about season 1 — and teased some of what’s to come in season 2 — while speaking alongside his costars at the Overcompensating panel at Prime Video’s Obsessed Fest fan event on June 27.
He also revealed that some of the cameos in the upcoming season — including an appearance from DJ and producer Zedd — can be traced back to earlier episodes.
“So we do have a spring break episode and I was thinking about kind of the time period that inspired this show. So we do have a special guest and it’s Zedd,” Skinner, also known as Benny Drama, teased at the fest, held at Nya Studios in Los Angeles.

The DJ will not only cameo, but he “will be playing” one of his hit songs, “Clarity.” The track, which features Foxes, was released in 2012. “I can’t tell you where he plays it, but it’s inspired a little bit by Fyre Festival,” Skinner added of the producer’s forthcoming cameo. He then shared that he’s “so excited for you to all see it.”
“But that’s one of our teases,” Skinner added at the L.A. event. “We have so many teasers for you though.”
A different season 2 cameo, Skinner teased elsewhere, left costar Wally Baram shocked. Said the creator, “There was one that Wally saw on the call sheet and she texted me and she’s like, ‘Oh, you’re playing chess.’ ”
“There’s an unbelievable move,” Baram, 28, added at the panel, which also included costars Mary Beth Barone and Owen Thiele. Skinner then teased, “I know. It’s so hard not to say,” as Thiele, 29, asked for someone to “whisper [it] to me.”
“We have secrets from you guys,” Barone, 35, then added, joking, “It doesn’t feel right.”

Skinner then joked that if any fans “find us out back, we’ll tell you,” and revealed that if any viewers revisit season 1, they may find clues about the upcoming season’s guest stars.
“I will say, everyone that’s in the show as far as cameos, like there are a lot of Easter eggs in season 1 that would tell you who’s coming in season 2 a little bit because I’m sick,” the Overcompensating creator said before joking, “Yes. I actually invented Easter eggs, but I forgot to tell you guys.”

Season 1 of Overcompensating featured appearances by Megan Fox, Charli xcx, Kaia Gerber, Bowen Yang, Matt Rogers and more.
In addition to the upcoming “Clarity” spring break episode and Charli’s memorable role in season 1 — the pop star played a version of herself and lent several of her tracks to the show — there will be several more fun musical moments in Overcompensating‘s second season, Skinner teased to Deadline.
“Amber Bain from The Japanese House is making music for us again, and Alex Somers,” he told the outlet on the red carpet at Obsessed Fest. Plus, the star added, “Me and [The 1975’s] George Daniel made a little song together.”
Overcompensating season 1 is available to stream on Prime Video.
