  • The documents also state that Chase was unmarried, had no children and was unhoused at the time of her death

Daveigh Chase left behind an estate valued at an estimated $400,000 after her death last month, according to probate documents obtained by PEOPLE.

The filings, submitted on July 8 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, estimate that the late actress’s estate consists of approximately $400,000 in personal property and no real property. According to the documents, Chase died without a will, prompting her mother, Cathy Chase, to petition the court to be appointed administrator of the estate.

The petition also requests that the court authorize her mother to administer the estate under California’s Independent Administration of Estates Act and approve a $400,000 bond.

A probate hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 12 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to the filing.

The documents state that Chase died in Los Angeles on June 16 at age 35. They also indicate she was unhoused at the time of her death, while listing a Chatsworth, Calif., address as her last known residence.

The petition further states that Chase was never married, had no children and was survived by her mother, Cathy, and her father John Schwallier.

A separate filing obtained by PEOPLE includes Cathy’s signed acknowledgment of the responsibilities she would assume if appointed personal representative of the estate. Those duties include protecting estate assets, notifying creditors, maintaining financial records and filing an inventory of the estate with the court.

The probate filings come weeks after Chase’s death.

The former child star was best known for voicing Lilo Pelekai in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch and portraying Samara Morgan in the horror film The Ring. A medical examiner’s report later listed her cause of death as AIDS, with chronic polysubstance use noted as another significant condition.

In the years leading up to her death, Chase struggled with addiction and homelessness, living on Los Angeles’ Skid Row.

In a June interview with The Daily Mail, Cathy said her daughter’s addiction began after a 2016 motorcycle accident, when she was prescribed pain medication.

“She was seeking drugs and was partying with the wrong people,” Cathy told the outlet. “I never kicked my daughter out. She wanted freedom and these people got her hooked on some drugs. That was the beginning.”

Her mother also denied that a family estrangement was responsible for her daughter’s struggles.

“It upsets me because people are saying I must’ve been a bad mother, but I never gave up on her,” Cathy told the Daily Mail. “As a mother, you don’t give up on your child. I was hoping she would still come home.”

Cathy said she tried repeatedly to get her daughter help but was unable to force her into treatment.

“I tried desperately to try to get [Daveigh] help, but you can’t legally force someone who doesn’t want that help,” she told the outlet. “She was completely gone, like, out of her mind. The drugs took hold of her.”
