Jack Antonoff was raving about his marriage a little over one month before PEOPLE broke the news that he and actress wife Margaret Qualley have separated.
The 42-year-old music producer and Bleachers frontman had the topic of marriage come up during a May 22 appearance on the Today show when speaking with co-anchor Craig Melvin.
After Melvin asked Antonoff if he was going to “any big weddings this summer,” alluding to the recent nuptials of Antonoff’s longtime collaborator Taylor Swift and her now-husband, Travis Kelce, Antonoff changed the subject to Melvin’s marriage.
When the journalist told Antonoff he’s been married for 15 years, Antonoff replied, “Oh, great. How’s it going? Is it gonna stick?”

And after Melvin answered in the affirmative, he tried to steer the conversation back to Swift’s wedding, asking again if Antonoff would be going to any big weddings.
“Uhhh, I hope. Yeah, I hope so, man,” Antonoff said at the time.
But when Melvin pressed him for details, Antonoff shook his head saying, “Oh no, no, no, no. Umm, yeah. I love being married, man. I’m happy you love being too.”
Antonoff later joked, “Did we just have a moment? Are our partners gonna see that?” with Melvin responding, “Now they will!”
The awkward exchange came a month before PEOPLE broke the news that the couple have separated just shy of their three-year wedding anniversary.
A source tells PEOPLE that Antonoff and Qualley’s relationship is “rocky,” while another insider said the pair are “figuring things out.”
Qualley, 31, noticeably didn’t attend Swift’s wedding with her husband, who instead brought his sister, Rachel Antonoff. His famous ex Lena Dunham was also in attendance.
