Jon French pleaded no contest to first-degree manslaughter and guilty to second-degree abuse of a corpse

An Oregon man pleaded no contest to first-degree manslaughter on Friday, Sept. 4 in connection with the death of his fiancé who was found decomposing in the back of his car.
Jon French, 35, also pleaded guilty to second-degree abuse of a corpse in the death of 47-year-old Jeannie Enyeart, the Oregonian reported.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 14, according to the Oregonian.
Enyeart went missing from her Northeast Portland home in January 2024. When Portland police spoke to French, he allegedly told them he’s seen her the previous day and her vehicle should be at their home, KPTV reported.

Her vehicle was found on a rural road near Stevenson, Wash. after it hit a snowbank. Investigators learned that the vehicle had been towed, per KPTV.

According to the Oregonian, French tried to claim the vehicle but was denied because he wasn’t the owner.
Enyeart’s body was found decomposing in the back seat, under a blanket and large items, the Oregonian reported.
Police discovered French’s driver’s license and wallet on the floor of the vehicle’s driver’s side, according to court records, the Oregonian reported.
An autopsy determined that the mother of two died from blunt force trauma to the neck, KPTV reported.
A ceramic mug was found shattered on the bedroom floor of the home, according to the Oregonian. A shard of the mug was found lodged in her back and most likely ended up there after her death, per the court records, the Oregonian reported.
French was arrested Feb. 5, 2024, KGW8 reported.
Enyeart’s younger sister, Kristin Eddy, told KGW8 that the family started noticed issues between the couple around December.
“We just had a feeling that things weren’t going well in the relationship,” said Eddy. “She reassured us that everything was okay but I think that is who Jeannie was. You know, I think whatever he was going through. She wanted to help him.”
